Greenwich Audubon to host Mexican expert on the monarch

GREENWICH — Audubon Greenwich has invited a Mexico-based conservationist to talk about monarch butterflies.

Jose Luis Alvarez, who is leading a regional reforestation effort in an area near Mexico City to recuperate lost habitat for the monarch butterfly, will be speaking at Audubon Greenwich at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Monarch butterflies will be migrating south through Connecticut over the next couple of months, traveling the same paths hawks do, said Ted Gilman, senior naturalist and environmental education specialist at Greenwich Audubon.
